Return to Work on Icy Roads

Just a Little Ice

When I came in this morning and found I had a customer’s computer waiting to be optimized, and found that another employee brought in his computer that had a similar problem to my manager’s computer. After examining his computer, I discovered that his problem would be much easier to solve, than my bosses was. His problem was created by a program on the hard drive, not embedded in the system files, so I simply erased the file, and had him visit all the places he usually visits to make sure it didn't come back. It didn't so that was that.

Tomorrow I Work Again!

The Boredom of Sleep

I went to bed last night as the computer was in the process of installing 69 updates in a single batch. These updates require 4 steps to install completely, first to download, second to install, third to continue the install during shutdown, and forth to finish the installation during restart of the system -- this take a long time so going to bed was the best bet.

My First Day off this Week!

Time to Re-Install

My two days off - and I going to start fixing my bosses computer - Most of the repair is comprised of waiting for the software to install - but I do have to keep an eye on it so it won’t take for ever. Fortunately there is a hidden partition on his computer which allows me to reinstall the system and user files - It just takes a couple of hours to run, so while I wait, I’ll answer some email that has been waiting for a while.

Well my boss brought in his wife's computer in this morning on which his nephew has been using to surf porn on the internet with out virus protection -- Now that’s like playing in traffic with a blindfold on, or better yet, Jumping off a skyscraper without a parachute.

I had a pretty good day at work today - sold a fair amount of product - optimized a couple of computers, and have only one more day till I get 2 days off. I realize that looking forwards to my days off, instead of work isn't right, according to the status quo, but I've worked for 40+ years and I just no longer get excited about work.

Friday - or my Tuesday!

My Day Off

My usual days off are Tuesday & Wednesday except when I have my monthly Sunday off, for which I lose one of those days instead, which really screws up my weekend, so to speak. As compensation, I take the Monday after my Sunday off, which gives me a 4 day weekend once a month.

After 4 days of trying to get my computer to work properly, it was actually pretty nice to get back to work. The day was slow - so I spent a lot of time working on other peoples computers, and actually enjoy that because I solved their problems.

Giving Up on Dell & Windows

Broken Computer

I have a Dell XPS 430 computer, with Windows Vista Home Premium, 6 GB of RAM, Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.5 GHz, 750 GB Hard Drive, and a ATI Raydeon HD 3600 Series Graphic Card. And no matter what the experts at Dell and Windows do - this system doesn't work as well as my Toshiba Laptop with less than ¹/₃^rd it's capabilities.

Another Day - Another Computer Problem!

I realize that computers are complicated, and good help is hard to find - but I am tired of spending 3 or 4 hours going over the same problem with a new tech rep, each time I try to solve the problem. My question is, why can't these so called experts read the transcripts of the previous calls and skip over doing the same things over and over and over again..

4 days, House Cleaning, But then the Computer!

Although I lost my 4 days off provided by the company - I still take 4 days off a month by taking a vacation day on Monday, following my monthly Sunday off, added to my normal weekly Tuesday & Wednesday it gives me a nice little vacation once a month.

More Snow - A Few More Customers & Sci-Fi

Space Precinct

We got another couple of inches of snow last night, and I had to dig my way out of the pile of snow left by the snow plow - but got to work in time to make a few bucks today. The customer traffic was better today, but nothing to brag about. I still spent a majority of the day waiting for customers, but did enjoy the customers I had.

Lots of Snow - Just No Customers

Just a bit of snow!

Everything was covered with four inches of fluffy, white, beautiful snow when I got up this morning -- beautiful, but a major pain, as it would continued most of the day. So after my usual morning routine, I headed into work and arrived at my scheduled time, and just as I expected -- No Customers, just employees doing things to keep busy - trying to make the time go by.

It not always true what you read - Check it out!

I'm not much of a writer, but there are time when I just have to blow off a bit of steam, and find the best way to do it is by writing it down and then editing, re-editing and then more editing. It can take me an hour or more just to write a single paragraph to my satisfaction -- the reason for this can be found quite often by reading my other posts, where I don't always take the extra time needed to make my entries, make sense!

I was talking with a friend yesterday about my motor home, and during the conversation she told me about an email she received, stating that; In November, Mr. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32 foot Winnebago motor home. On his first trip home, having joined the freeway, he set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the driver's seat to go into the back and make himself a cup of coffee. Not surprisingly, the Winnie left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mr. Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising him in the handbook that he could not actually do this. He was awarded $1,750,000 plus a new Winnebago. It was also said that Winnebago actually changed their manuals as a result of this suit, just in case Mrs. Grazinski has any relatives who might also buy a motor home. The e-mail that announced the award concludes: “Are we, as a society, getting more stupid?”

Sorry for the Delay - Still Fixing My Computer!

My frustration abounds -- my computer system still isn't working properly -- Once again I contacted Dell with the problem -- and after talking this time and explaining that I've reinstalled the Vista about 50 times - they agreed to send me a new hard drive with the system installed, as well as new restore discs.

My Diagrams Made - Now I just need time!

New Video

I love this time of year, but it requires me to work many more hours than usual which makes it hard for me to find time to work on the motor home as needed. Fortunately this year my schedule for the next two weeks is normal. I'll make up for these easy weeks in the following two weeks around Christmas, but that's to be expected.

Rain, Rain Go Away

New Video

Every spare minute I've had since I worked on the roof, has been plagued by rain. I did get a chance during one of the breaks in the precipitation to add some temporary patches to the roof, in hopes they will hold till the weather turns better. So while I was waiting for the break in the weather, I began work on the inside of the motor home.

Roof Repairs -- Day One

New Video

I started the repairs on the roof today, and found the progress to be a lot slower than I had anticipated. Why do many people simply put caulking on top of old caulking to stop leaks? Yes it’s quicker that way, but if you takes the time to do it right, the results will last a whole lot longer, and protect your investment a whole lot better.
